History of Photography
Camera Obscura
A Camera Obscura is an old fashioned camera. The Latin name means "dark chamber" and the earliest versions dating to antiquity consisted of small darkened rooms with light admitted through a tiny hole. The camera obscura was used for centuries before modern cameras came in. Many versions were built including portable versions followed by smaller versions and even pocket versions. The interior of the box was painted black and the image reflected by an angled mirror so that it could be viewed right side up.

Natural vs Manmade
Do you feel that you photographed appropriate images? Did you find anything difficult eg composition or exposure?

Shutter speed
Shutter speed controls how long your camera's sensor is exposed to light and is responsible for the appearance of motion in the photo. As shutter speed is measured in seconds, think of it as the amount of time you are allowing light to reach your camera's sensor. If your camera is set to a slow shutter speed, the first thing you'll notice is the effect of motion blur.

ISO: 400
Shutter Speed: 1/10 Aperture: f4.5 |
For the Shutter speed I took two different images both with different Shutter Speeds one has a relatively fast Shutter speed and One has a very slow one. For the picture with a high Shutter speed the image is in focus whereas the picture with the slow Shutter speed if very blurred.
WWW: You could easily tell that the first one had a high shutter speed and the second one had a lower Shutter Speed.
EBI: I could of taken more photos

Levitation
Yowa Yowa
For the Levitation images I used an ISO of 800.
The lighting conditions was very grey and dull so we had to have a relatively fast ISO
The Shutter speed was 1/60
WWW: I used a good ISO and got some good photos finding a place to jump of to make it look like we were levitating.
EBI: I could have tried some different angles for the photos.
I would tell them to look at the lighting conditions and make sure to base that on what the IOS and shutter speed is.

Francesca Woodman
In the photograph Providence, Rhode Island Francesca Woodman intended to make it seem sad and depressing. Woodman achieved this in many ways, firstly she used a slow shutter speed to make it seem blurry and out of control. Secondly she did it in black and white depriving it of any colour.
Lastly she is in a bare empty room with no objects this makes it feel bleak. Woodman wants us to be curious and intrigued to what she is doing. The wider context woodman is addressing is one of gender. Her body is out of focus whereas her shoes are in focus. You can tell by her heels that this is a woman. I think she wanted to explore what it is to be a woman.
Woodman’s process or technique to create this work is messy and unclear which helps her create the effect of her life being the same as the photograph.

Aperture
Aperture controls the amount of light that passes through the lens and falls on the image sensor. The higher the f-number, the smaller the aperture and the less light that passes through there lens; the lower the f-number, the larger the aperture and the more light that passes through the lens.
The aperture is the setting that beginners typically use to control depth of field. The wider the aperture, the shallower the depth of field. On the Contrary, the smaller the aperture, the deeper the depth of field.

www: The aperture worked well in the different photos and I was able to capture the depth of field for the different photos.
ebi: Some of the photos were a bit blurry and I could of taken the photos in more interesting locations.
Label each image with it's meta data (shutter speed, aperture etc). Remember, you can find this in Bridge.
Annotate: www and ebi, were you able to capture the difference in DoF, was your composition successful?

Composition
In this task I was required to find examples of the nine different compositions in the handout.
Composition Exercise 1
I chose my compositions by looking around the school finding images that looked similar to the ones one the sheet.
My best nine images
WWW: I managed to get all of the images to look very similar to the ones on the sheet.
EBI: I could of got a better focus for some of the images that I took.
